Special features
The Quinta da Saimeira estate is located in São Mamede Natural Park, along with several small villages. The estate has three attractive guesthouses with a swimming pool for guests and your Dutch host and hostess Michiel and Margreet will pamper you during your stay. The houses are rustic with lots of white plasterwork, real wood and beautiful simplicity. There is one house that suits six people, one for four people and a cozy cottage for two.
What’s for breakfast?
Enjoy a lovely breakfast on your own terrace with a view stretching out 150 kilometers across the valley. Wonderful homemade bread baked in a wood-burning stove, soft goat’s cheese from the market and honey from the local beekeeper. You can also tend to your own breakfast if you like because the houses are equipped with kitchens.
Our tip
Spend the day by the pool with a book or take a trip into an Alentejan village. Feeling adventurous? Then you can also go on a horseback ride through the mountains.
Good food
Actually, the Confraria is not a restaurant. It is more like visiting Portuguese friends for dinner. There is no menu and Sr Luís, the owner, chooses the wine for you. Every day his wife Alexina makes two dishes, always different and always Alentejan.
Good to know
In November the ‘Feira de Castanha’, an entire weekend dedicated to chestnuts, is celebrated.
