Bed & Breakfast Basalt aan See in Stavoren (Friesland)

We have been collecting all the best getaway venues: B&Bs, hotels and other places to stay. All great destinations for a weekend away or a bit longer. How about this beachy place at the Land’s End of Friesland: Stavoren.

Special features
Owner Renske has decorated her B&B in the style of a small beach house, with attractive old recycled wood, beachcombing finds from the sea and tableware from her own ceramics studio. It has a comfortable beach chair for lounging and when you open the window you can hear the waves crashing. Through the trees there is a view of the sailing boats on the IJsselmeer.

What’s for breakfast?
You can book a stay here with or without breakfast. The room has its own kitchen and the supermarket is close by. The breakfast Renske serves consists of yoghurt and seasonal fruit (sometimes from her own garden), tomato and cucumber, various rolls and toppings.

Our tip
Take a walk over the zeedijk and the old harbor, looking at boats by the new locks and then grab a table on a café terrace. Or dive into the IJsselmeer! There are many old villages to visit in the area too, like Hindeloopen and Workum (the Jopie Huisman Museum is highly recommended).

Good food
At the Scottish whisky restaurant De Koebrug (http://dekoebrug.nl/): good pure food and a fine glass of whisky as a nightcap.

Good to know
Stavoren is definitely the ‘Land’s End’ of Friesland. A prominent point of land surrounded by water. The northern light is beautiful.

Price per room for two people: € 79 including breakfast and  € 64 excluding breakfast.
