Casa Fontelheira Portugal

We’re gathering the addresses of the best B&Bs, hotels and other overnight locations we can find. All of which, we feel, are great places to go for a weekend or a bit longer. Located in the north of Portugal, Casa Fontelheira consists of a lovely holiday home, sturdy safari tents and a wonderful swimming pool.

What makes Casa Fontelheira a great place to stay?
Casa Fontelheira is located in a part of Portugal that has maintained its authenticity, where people still have time for each other and life ambles nicely along. The small holiday resort, which belongs to Elisa and Max, consists of a six-person holiday home and a few comfortable glamping tents (for 5 or 6 people). Comfort, luxury, rest, space and pampering are the keywords regarding your stay  here. There’s even a (heated) swimming pool with loungers and a fantastic view of the surrounding rolling hills.

What’s for breakfast?
Both the holiday home and the safari tents have a kitchen. Which means you can easily make your own breakfast yourself. But you can also opt to have a breakfast basket delivered to your tent or make your way to the restaurant for a full breakfast with local products.

Our Tip
Visit the historic coastal city of Porto, known for the delicious Port wine, which is best sampled on a terrace by the harbor. Be sure to also visit Ribeira, the city’s oldest district, which boasts lovely small streets, plenty of houses with character, and is designated as a UNESCO World Heritage site.

Good food
Dinner is served daily at 7 p.m. and the dish changes each day, depending on what’s in season. The fresh products come from local farms in the area or straight from the land belonging to Casa Fontelheira.

Tents start at €120 per night. Casafontelheira.com
