Cottage Le Vieux Moulin in Dalhem (Belgium)

We have been collecting all the best getaway venues: B&Bs, hotels and other places to stay. All great destinations for a weekend away or a bit longer. Sleeping in an old watermill, with a wood-fired hot tub in the garden; this is a very special address to know about in Belgium.

Special features
The very enjoyable holiday home ‘Le Vieux Moulin’ lies in the French-speaking part of Belgium, fifteen minutes from the Dutch city Maastricht. It is an actual converted water mill, set in a magical location. Great interior with many bric-a-brac details, like an authentic typesetting tray on the wall. The bedroom has a wood-burning heater and wooden beams on the ceiling. You can laze about in the gorgeous garden, take a walk in the forest, or browse the wonderful local flea markets.

What’s for breakfast?
You make your own breakfast here. In the village Vise there are many lovely shops, including delicatessen shops, artisanal butchers, cheese shops, bakers, patisseries, etc. All the makings of a great breakfast can be found here. The baker just around the corner has delicious croissants

Our tip
Visit the brocante and antiques market held every Sunday in Tongeren. This is also the perfect place to have a nice Trappist beer on a café terrace. Accompanied by salad with stone-oven-baked bread, appelstroop (sweet apple spread) and a cheese from the local monastery, ‘Val Dieu’.
