In De Hippe Kip in Schipborg (North of Holland)

We have been collecting all the best getaway venues: B&Bs, hotels and other places to stay. All great destinations for a weekend away or a bit longer. In the beautiful green surroundings of Drenthe you can stay in retro caravans from the seventies.

Special features
The ‘Hippe Kippen’ (‘hip chickens’) on the De Vledders camping ground all have great furnishings. They are caravans from the 1970s that have been given a makeover. Think vintage lamps, cool tableware, and all necessities: pots, pans, water heater, books, magazines. And a comfortable bed, of course.  When the weather is nice you can sit outside in the shade of your own awning. Cooking is outdoors and there is no running water: it’s real camping!

Our tip
De Vledders lies in the beautiful valley landscape of the Drentsche Aa. You can walk straight on to the heather fields from the camping and go on lovely walks or bicycle tours. Not such a big nature fan? Groningen is only fifteen minutes away! The camping ground is large with lots of space, there’s a little shop, you can swim in the lake and even go horseback riding. In the summer there are many fairs and festivals nearby, in the weekend of 4, 5 and 6 July for example: Festival der Aa (Festivalderaa.nl).

Good to know
These caravans are permanent fixtures on the campsite…but they do sell revamped caravans too! You can take them on the road. Check out their website.

Price per week starts at € 225 (caravans available for two, three or four people)
