De Spotvogel – Wallonia

We’re gathering the addresses of the best B&Bs, hotels and other overnight locations we can find. All of which, we feel, are great places to go for a weekend or a bit longer. Located next to a farm and orchard, De Spotvogel holiday home in Treignes (Wallonia) is full of light and is delightfully rural.

What makes De Spotvogel a great place to stay?

Located in the Ardennes, De Spotvogel is a wonderful contemporary house that is full of light and lots to do, making it an ideal spot to stay for a week – or longer – and embrace your holiday full-on. There’s a playground and a secret camp area on site, and in September you can pick the apples from the orchard and even make your own applesauce in the kitchen. When the weather’s bad, you can still have fun as there are lots of books, games, craft materials, a marble alley and binoculars, to name just a few, that will keep the boredom at bay.

What’s for breakfast?
The home is self-catering, and you can pick up freshly baked rolls every morning from the local supermarket. It’s a lovely walk too, as you pass the farm and the horses in the orchard to get there.

Our tip

Wander to the nearby villages via some beautiful footpaths that pass just outside De Spotvogel cottage. Then take the steam train back to Treignes. By the church, there’s a local pub with a lovely terrace, where you can enjoy the delicious Super de Fagnes (a locally brewed beer). We highly recommend having the trout flambéed with pastis, accompanied with a blonde Super de Fagnes!
