De Stamper B&B

We’re gathering the addresses of the best B&Bs, hotels and other overnight locations we can find. All of which, we feel, are great places to go for a weekend or a bit longer. At De Stamper Bed & Breakfast in Damme, you can either rest your head in the historic homestead or the small bakery that is now a four-person studio.

What makes De Stamper a great place to stay?
Hofstede Stamper is a historic farmhouse from 1658 with many of its original details and a great ambiance. The rooms are decorated in a simple and authentic way, with items such as a cozy old-fashioned chair or a traditional pitcher and basin. You can embrace nature, silence and space here. And if you feel like it, you can enjoy their three-course menu, too. De Stamper has five double bedrooms in the farmhouse itself, or you can choose to stay in the small bakery that has been converted into a studio for four, complete with kitchen and bathroom.

What’s for breakfast?
The extensive breakfast is served up in the kitchen, where owner Marc will also prepare eggs to order. There are several types of bread, including organic bread from the best baker in Flanders; cheeses from Damme and France; cold cuts; homemade yogurt, butter and jams; freshly squeezed orange juice and, of course, coffee or tea.

Our tip
You can take a fantastic bike ride through the polders to towns such as Bruges, Damme, Knokke and Cadzand. Or to Het Zwin, a nature reserve on the Dutch/Belgian border, where thousands of birds nest. The beach is just 15 minutes away by car.

Good food
Drink coffee or eat prawn croquettes at Tante Marie. De Siphon restaurant is well known for its traditional Belgian cuisine.

A room for two at De Stamper B&B starts at €95 per night, including breakfast. The bakery studio for 4 people with kitchen and bathroom is from €140 per night.
