De Weide Wereld

We’re gathering the addresses of the best B&Bs, hotels and other overnight locations we can find. All of which, we feel, are great places to go for a weekend or a bit longer. Just as its name suggests, the Weide Wereld B&B (literally translated as “the world of the meadow”) is very rural and yet is also near Bruges and Ghent. In the summer, you can enjoy your breakfast in the garden under the walnut trees.

What makes the Weide Wereld a great place to stay?
Every room, every spot in the house, takes you to faraway places. Guests come from around the world and tell their stories at the cozy communal breakfast table – like the balloonist  who lives in Myanmar six months a year. Weide Wereld’s location is very special, as it is in the countryside surrounded by nature, but also not far from Bruges and Ghent. In the mornings, you can practice yoga by the natural lake, and in the summer you can enjoy your breakfast outside under the walnut trees.

What’s for breakfast?
The extensive breakfast is almost completely organic, and consists of local and homemade products, including the delicious juices, marmalades and jams they make using the fruit from their own orchard (apples, pears and quinces). Croissants, baguettes and rolls come from the small bakery, Painture, and twice a week, they serve home-baked bread. And then there are also the homemade cakes with seasonal orchard fruits, sugar-free English muffins, Indian cardamom buns, Italian cheesecakes and a Lebanese fruit salad with orange blossom.

Our tip
Owners Petra and Bruno know all the cool shopping addresses, second-hand stores and flea markets, cafés and pubs that are in the neighborhood. Step out the front door, and you’re straight on the Beverhoutsveld Wandelpad, a beautiful walking route. And nearby, you’ll find the “Zotte Mutse,” a warm and cozy restaurant in the middle of Beernemse nature, where they serve a mouthwatering waffle with hot cherries.

Good to know
Bruno loves letters carved in stone and makes stained glass windows. Petra crochets, knits and embroiders granny blankets. All of which you will come across in their wonderful place.

A room for two at Weide Wereld starts at €80 per night, based on a two-night stay.
