Helsinki is home to lots of creative people who are happy to let out their house. Take this apartment for example; when you stay here, you become a part of the Finnish city’s creative scene – if only for a brief moment.
What makes this place a great place to stay?
Mejiu’s home is wonderfully light and the interior is full of Finnish design. You can tell that she works in the creative field because everything is so well thought out. On the sofa, for example, is a big fabric “ham” and there’s a cute cuckoo clock (which you can also set off).
What’s for breakfast?
You need to organize your own breakfast, and if you fancy eating out, you’ll find some lovely breakfast spots nearby. The Finns love a buffet, especially on Sundays, with lots of fresh fruit, salmon and delicious Finnish cinnamon rolls.
Our tip
Helsinki is a city full of small interiors’ shops, which you’ll soon discover if you head over to the Design District. Near Meiju’s home, you’ll find the most amazing sauna in Helsinki – Kulttuurisuana – where you can dive into the sea after your sauna and swim under the stars.
Good food
You can enjoy delicious food at the Sea Horse restaurant, which was a wild sailor’s pub in a former life. Nowadays, it’s frequented by a more civilized crowd – both young and old – who come here to enjoy Finnish meatballs with red cabbage. Alternatively, go to Story for some lunch, a hip spot in the Old Market Hall by the harbor.
Good to know
You can take a day trip to Estonia’s capital, Tallinn, which will make for a wonderfully fun visit, as Tallinn is a beautiful city full of atmosphere.
