La Maison Du Cerf in France

We have been collecting all the best getaway venues: B&Bs, hotels and other places to stay. All great destinations for a weekend away or a bit longer. Comfy beds, beautiful wallpaper and an enormous garden make this rustic house a nice place to just sit, read a book and sip some wine. Interesting tours in the surrounding area are also possible.

Special features
The beautiful rustic house of Dutch hostess Lucia Grapendaal lies in the middle of the French region Le Berry. The peaceful and quiet surroundings and the relaxed atmosphere make La Maison du Cerf a wonderful place to go. The rooms are spacious and beautiful (check out the wallpaper!) with super comfy beds. The two-hectare garden is a marvelous place to just sit and read your book, enjoy a glass of wine or have a picnic.

What’s for breakfast?
Naturally there are baguettes, croissants and fresh eggs from the chickens in the yard. Two kinds of jam, ham, brie, yoghurt, cake or nutbread, as well as peanut butter and Dutch hagelslag (chocolate sprinkles).

Our tip
Famous author George Sand once lived here, and she definitely left her mark. Tours of her country mansion are available and piano concerts are given by well-known piano players in the summer. She spent her twilight years in Gargilesse, which is now an artist village with wonderful art galleries.

Good food
At La Maison du Cerf you can enjoy a lovely dinner prepared by Lucia herself. All fresh ingredients and all organic meats from animals who led a good life. Le Relais du Facteur, a restaurant nearby, is also an option, with an adorable interior and the owner actually has a strong resemblance to Amélie Poulain!

Good to know
Le Berry is a thinly populated area and is in the top 3 of locations with the cleanest air in France.
Price per night for a double room starts at € 60 including breakfast.
