Lieve Nachten

We’re gathering the addresses of the best B&Bs, hotels and other overnight locations we can find. All of which, we feel, are great places to go for a weekend or a bit longer. At the Lieve Nachten Bed & Breakfast in IJburg you’re only ten minutes away from the center of Amsterdam, so you can enjoy a city stay without being surrounded by tourists.

What makes Lieve Nachten a great place to stay?
The rooms at Lieve Nachten on the island of IJburg are cheaper and larger than those you’ll find in the city. You can sit and relax in the garden or even on the sidewalks, in an area that’s not at all touristy. The B&B itself is gorgeous and the rooms are a wonderful combination of stylish and hip. You’ll sleep either on a fantastic box spring or Japanese futon. Everything is made from sustainable materials: the curtains, bedding, soaps… There is also a cozy open kitchen and a lovely city garden. And then a mere ten-minute tram ride away from this “Amsterdam by the sea,” you’ll find yourself in the bustling heart of the city.

What’s for breakfast?
Breakfast here is a daily celebration. Extremely healthy and varied, it is made up of produce that comes from local and organic suppliers, including bread from the French bakers Le Fourniel and coffee from Kees Kraakman. Gluten-free products are also offered.

Our tip
“Simply do nothing” is a great tip for whiling away some time after coming back from the busy city. Or perhaps go swimming. And if you feel you need to work off some of that breakfast, slip on a pair of trainers and take a run round Diemerpark.

Good food
For the past eight years, Cafe Vrijburcht has been serving great food cooked by Willem Pasman, and they also serve delicious beers from Brewery ‘t IJ. Bloem is always a fun place to visit on a Monday – delicious Italian food, fine wines and not to hard on the wallet. Alternatively, head over to Blijburg Beachclub restaurant, which will reopen in its new location this summer.

Prices start from €75 per night, including breakfast.
