This month, chalkboard artist and hand-letterer Valerie McKeehan is our guest pinner on our Friends of Flow Pinterest board. She follows on from Charlotte Hedeman Guéniau, founder and director of Rice. Thank you Charlotte and welcome Valerie!
Valerie’s favorite thing about hand-lettering with chalk is the imperfect letters you sometimes end up with. “Quotes have so much more charm to them when they have been written by hand as opposed to on the computer using a specific font,” she says. Valerie is regularly asked about the materials she works with, and she has noticed that more and more people are starting to use chalkboards. “It’s a really accessible art form for anyone to try, because you can easily delete a drawing and start over,” Valerie explains. You can see—and buy—Valerie’s work on her website, and this fall, she will be opening a bricks-and-mortar store in Pittsburgh, US, which will stock her products such as The Keepsake Kitchen Diary and The Chalk Lettering Tool Kit.
