Chocolate lovers take note! The special-edition Tony’s Chocolonely & Flow chocolate bar is now available in combination with the Flow Book for Paper Lovers or the One-quote-a-day Calendar 2015 when you buy them online. Tony’s Chocolonely chocolate bars are insanely good, and did you know that the production of this Dutch brand’s chocolate is 100% slave-free?
The Tony’s Chocolonely brand was created by journalist Teun van de Keuken in 2005. While producing the Dutch TV program Keuringsdienst van Waarde he found out that slave labor is still widespread in the cacao industry and he wanted to do something to change that. That’s why Tony’s Chocolonely buys its cocoa beans directly from farmers in Ghana and the Ivory Coast.
But the brand is also known for its crazy and original taste combinations. Marieke, product manager at Tony’s, tells us more: “For our limited edition bars we always try to think out of the box. We got the idea for the milk-chocolate-caramel-sea-salt flavor when we were traveling through the US. For our newest flavor, licorice, we found our inspiration in chocolate from Scandinavia. There, they make a chocolate with a kind of sweet-pulling-licorice flavor, but we have developed a salty variation with salmiak. Once we decide which flavors we want, we experiment with them in our kitchen, which is the heart of our Amsterdam company, until we get the recipe just right.”
