We’ve brought all of our favorite illustrations, designs and photos from the past eight years of Flow into one book: the Flow Book of Posters & Cards. And we’ve asked some of the illustrators featured in the book to talk with us on our blog. Here, Brie Harrison tells us what she’s up to.
“I created a spring poster for the Dutch edition of Flow earlier this year, and the illustrations from that were used to create cards for the Flow Book of Posters & Cards. I took inspiration from a poster I sell that features plants on it. They have a bit of a vintage school wall chart feel about them, and I really love using a dark background for my images at the moment.
What are you up to at the moment?
“This summer, I was in England where I sold my cards and art prints at several summer markets. The Grow Fair in Hampstead, London was very inspiring with all those different plants. Currently, I’m working on some new prints and cards that will come out next year. This fall, I have a small exhibition of my work in a gallery in Suffolk and I would like to learn French. What’s more, I would absolutely love to be able to design the packaging for a soap or beauty product, to illustrate a non-fiction children’s book and do something with Chinese ceramics.”
Taped haphazardly to the wall
“I collect all sorts of cards, photographs and scraps of paper, and my studio walls are covered in them, as I have taped them haphazardly all over the place for inspiration. I also have – as you might expect – lots of plants on my desk. I work at a nice big oak table, and I listen to the radio – BBC Radio 4 and BBC Radio 6 – or podcasts while I’m working. I love to collect ideas in my sketchbook when I’m on the go, and then to develop them further on my computer once I get back to my studio.
