In each issue of Flow Magazine, we ask three creative people: What are you up to? In Issue 16, one of them is Carolyn Friedlander, a designer that lives in Lake Wales, Florida. You can read a snippet of the article below.
What inspires you?
Curiosity inspires many of my projects. Making a quilt, for example, is the process of seeing how your idea works out in reality, and my favorite projects are the ones where I’m not sure if my idea will work out. When the outcome is unknown, I am really motivated to get to the end to find out. It is all one big experiment.
What do you like about your work?
I like getting people excited about making things. In 2013, I launched the Slow Sewing Studio. It’s a celebration of not just sewing, but slowing down and being more mindful of what you are doing. I continue to release new patterns and am always thinking of ways to learn, teach and engage through these patterns.
