What are you doing these days?
Dave and I are traveling around Asia for six months. We’ve given up our home and stored our furniture, and have started to research where we want to live next. We dream of finding a piece of land where we can build a sustainable and self-sufficient home with a big garden and chickens pottering about. And with a studio for me to work in. Taking this journey, allowing myself to muck about but also work a little, is giving me new insights and inspiration.
How are your days different from back home?
In the Netherlands, there was a lot of structure to my days. I got up at 7:30 a.m., fed our cat and answered my e-mails while eating breakfast. In the afternoon, I worked on illustrations or projects. I thought I could maintain my structure from home, but I gave that idea up pretty quickly. No day is the same here. I get up early, around 6 a.m. The days go by so quickly with traveling around in buses, trains and airplanes, and figuring out where to go. Yesterday, we snorkeled in southern Thailand and were surrounded by little yellow fish. In the evening, we ate sticky mango rice on the beach, reggae music was playing and I drew in my sketchbook.
