In each issue of Flow Magazine, we ask three creative people: What are you up to? In Issue 18, one of them is Sarika Thakorlal, a textile artist, designer, blogger and product stylist from The Cotswolds, UK.
Can you tell us a bit about yourself?
I make 3D conceptual tapestry pieces and printed leather purses. I also write. I come from a family of tailors, and I studied textiles at Norwich Art School in the UK. Over the years I have developed my own style and skills, and now like to make tactile products that are striking, bright and colorful.
You do a lot of things, how does that work?
I tend to move between disciplines, from contemporary installation projects to designing accessories, and then writing about other designers and exciting creative work on my blog. I don’t pin myself down to one label. I like to make lists to keep me on track during the day. If I’m writing I’ll be found sitting on the floor in my living room, but if I’m sewing or photographing I’ll be in the studio for hours. It’s not unusual for me to be styling a shoot at 6 a.m.
