Happy International Women’s Day! We thought today would be a great opportunity to tell you a little more about what some of the Flow illustrators whose illustrations are featured in our Women of the World Coloring Book (which you can find nestled in the pages Flow Magazine, issue 16) are up to.
UK-based artist Amy Blackwell has been busy creating new prints for her web shop. For her latest pictures, Amy has been inspired by the way women have teamed up to react to everything that is happening in the current political climate. The result is a series of portraits featuring women with strong faces that are abstract in form and color. You can see these and more of Amy’s work on her website and Instagram, where she’s also posted a little film that gives you a sneak peek into the pages of her most recently-finished sketchbook.
Rebecca Green has been busy with her new book, How to Make Friends With a Ghost. The idea for the story came while she was out walking her dog and trying to think of inspiration for a project with the theme, October. Wanting to steer away from her usual subjects of girls or animals, she conjured up a little ghost and imagined what would happen if it was real. That original thought took its course via hours of work and 125 initial copies sold on Rebecca’s website, to become an actual book that will be published by Tundra and released this September.
Sarah Walsh is our guest pinner on this month’s Friends of Flow Pinterest page, and we can’t wait to see what she compiles. Sarah has also illustrated the pictures in My Family, the fifth story in the “Tiny Blessings” children’s book series, which will be out next month. Once again, Yelena Bryksenkova has collaborated with us for the new edition of the Flow Book for Paper Lovers, and also provided some How To drawing lessons for the Flow Big Book of Drawing, both of which will be out later this year. Yelena recently joined Women who Draw, a rapidly growing open directory that was launched earlier this year by artists Julia Rothman and Wendy Macnaughton “in an effort to increase the visibility of female illustrators, with an emphasis on female illustrators of color, LBTQ+, and other minority groups of female illustrators.” Visit Yelena’s website to see more.
The Flow Women of the World Coloring Book Extra contains a compilation of illustrations that feature women, which have been drawn by the above artists and converted into coloring plates so that you can bring them to life with your own colors and imagination.
